Install an older Version of Frets on FireHi guys, and welcome to my thread which should hopefully get you playing the three songs included with Frets on Fire. I shall try my best to write some more simple guides here later, and get this one up to date. Downloading Frets on Fire 1.2.451Although you can download the latest version of the game from the official website ( fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/), you will find that the latest versions will probably be incompatible with some of the mods you want to install, so I srtongly recommend you instead download version 1.2.451 ( www.brothersoft.com/d.php?soft_id=66752&url=http%3A%2F%2Ffiles.brothersoft.com%2Fgames%2Fsimulations%2FFretsOnFire.exe) Install PicsComing Soon. Long story short, install to a local disc drive with plenty of space, and use the default options (including 640X480 graphics resolution unless you have a very fast computer and good monitor) Play Frets on FireYou should now be able to start Frets on Fire from the start menu. Try the tutorial first, and then get good on the three songs included. The default gameplay keys are F1-F5 and Enter or Shift to Pluck, and, oh, Escape for when you suck, lol!

Adding Custom SongsFile TypesDownloads are usually handled in either .zip or .rar format. Windows can open zip files without help, but rar files need extra software. Many people opt for the popular WINRAR in trial form, but I personally recommend 7Zip, because it does a similar job for free! (Although it can extract rar files, it cannot make them). You must extract these files (perhaps to the desktop temporarily as I do) before they are any use to Frets on Fire. Song FilesFor one song to work correctly as it should in Frets on Fire, the following files are required, and should be kept together in a folder of their own: - Song.ini Contains the song title, artist, tape casette colour and high score data for the song.
- Notes.mid Contains the data for whihc frets you need to press, when, during the song.
- Song.ogg Background music for the song. Without it the game goes silent when the player makes a mistake. If missing(to make download smaller), make a copy of Guitar.ogg
- Guitar.oggThe sound file that will only play while the player makes no mistakes.
Optional files include: - Label.png Adds a label to the track for the game menu.
- Script.ini If you have a karaoke mod installed, the lyrics will be conatined in this file.
- Rhythm.ogg Sometimes the bass guitar audio is included.
Game DirectoriesFind where you installed Frets on Fire in your computer, typically C:\program files\frets on fire. Go into the data folder, and then songs. Move the folder with all the files for the particular song here and you should get additional songs appearing in the menu. A word or warning, if you put too many songs into the songs folder, Frets on Fire may crash. You can create multiple libraries to fix this. Press escape to leave a song library. ( The original info link on the FoF dev site). NOW HEAD OVER TO THE SONG LIBRARY AND FIND SOME AWESOME TRACKS
